Vitaminwater ZERO review

by Lauren on March 19, 2010

Hey everyone, HAPPY FRIDAY! Who has big plans this weekend?!

Last night I tried two flavors of Vitaminwater Zero. I have always liked Vitaminwater and when it first came out a few years ago it was a big hit! After creating their line of Vitaminwater10 beverages (10 cals per serving- 25 calories for the entire bottle) I always wondered if they were going to create a line of zero calorie drinks.

…And they finally did!

Their zero calorie drinks are great for calorie-conscious people looking for a “great-tasting” beverage with the added benefits of vitamins and electrolytes. They come in the following  flavors:

  • Mega-C (grape raspberry)
  • Go-Go (mixed berry)
  • Squeezed (lemonade)
  • Recoup (peach-mandarin)
  • Rise (orange)
  • Revitalize (green tea)
  • XXX (acai-blueberry-pomegranate)

I love that it’s zero calories per bottle! I tried the squeezed lemonade flavor last night and I really liked it. It did however taste very watered down, so similar to lemon flavored water. I really like lemon in my water, this was a little bit sweeter. I liked the light lemon taste because I don’t enjoy strongly flavored beverages, but you guys decide on this one!
I also tried the mega-c, grape raspberry flavor. I didn’t think it was as refreshing as the lemonade flavor but still good. I was told it tastes like cough medicine but I didn’t think it was THAT bad. It also tasted watered down and not as strongly flavored as the origonal Vitaminwater or Vitaminwater10. I am not sure if I can give up my love for Powerade Zero but I will have to give this Vitaminwater Zero another shot in order to decide!
Have you tried Vitaminwater zero? What are your thoughts?

I loved the Vitaminwater Ten, but I can not stand the Zero. I drank at least a bottle of ten a day, now I will not even buy it. I am very sad they ruined such a wonderful drink.

I read that Vitamin Water Zero actually does have calories because of the carbohydrates

On the bottle label, you will find that it has 0 calories but 3 grams of carbohydrates and sugar, less then 1gram. How does this work? Doesn’t 1 gram of carbohydrates contain 4 calories? Yes, it does. So, theoretically, there are 30 calories in each bottle. Not quite, however, as Erythritol is almost non-caloric, with only 0.2 calories per gram vs. 4 calories for sugar (20 times fewer calories). Thus, Erythritol is uniquely qualified as a zero calorie bulk sweetener for formulating “reduced calorie” and “light” products which require a 25 percent or more calorie reduction from the standard formulation. Under U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) labeling requirements, it has a caloric value of 0.2 calories per gram. That’s why the Vitamin Water Zero can be labeled as zero calorie, although it doesn’t have really zero calories. (Look at the label again. 1 gram of sugar is listed. Sugar is a carbohydrate. And each gram of it has 4 calories.) There are 2.5 servings in 1 bottle. Hence, there are at least 8 calories in each bottle.
