I want to start today off with something that I emphasize strongly in my posts…
EVERYTHING IN MODERATION! Yes, I am a health nut, I like to party, and I work really hard at the things that matter most to me. The reason I started this blog is to direct my readers how to live happier and healthier lifestyles. I try my best to make the smartest choices but sometimes it doesn’t always work out that way (especially on the weekends). I am just a normal twenty-something year old girl, working and living in Chicago while trying to figure out what is best for my future. I want everyone to know that I am not perfect and I don’t always make the best decisions for my overall health. 
Thank you so much to everyone that supports me and NEWtrition. I am always trying to come up with new ideas to make this blog bigger and better. Nowwww onto this weekend!
I went to Salpicon in Old Town Saturday night with my parents. I’ve never been there before, so I obvi had to blog about it. They have a fantastic wine and tequila bar and the food was awesome, well-prepared, and the service was great. Our waiter really knew what he was talking about and made excellent recommendations.  Although the food is a bit pricey, the quality and creativity justifies the cost. This isn’t your typical Mexican restaurant that serves tacos and burritos. It is more upscale, which I loved!
We started off with a margarita… On the rocks, no salt. I HATE when the rim has salt on it!

Chips and guac

Tiger Shrimp served with two spicy sauces and thinly sliced mango. EXCELLENT! My Mom and I split the salmon special…
Glazed with ancho chile and served with a creamy tomatillo-serrano sauce on a bed of sautéed fennel and spinach. Since I’m still on a fish taco kick I rolled the salmon up in a corn tortilla. The salmon was the sweetest I’ve ever tasted, not fishy AT ALL!

My Dad ordered Stuffed poblano peppers. They were lightly egg-battered, sautéed, and stuffed with Chihuahua cheese; served with a roasted tomato sauce. Beans came on the side.

My Dad LOVES desert, where do you think I get my sweet tooth from?!? He ordered some refreshing sorbet.
  Mango, strawberry, and hazelnut flavors! Great way to end our meal!
I would definitely come back to Salpicon again!
Yesterday, my friend Sarah and I went on a walk to the South Loop to see if we could catch the filming of Transformers 3… we were also on a hunt for Shia LaBeouf! lol.
No Shia in sight :-(

  1. 1st off that shrimp / mango thing looks good. 2nd- I need some NEWtrition help…. NYC has calorie labeling at all big chain type restaurants to help people make informed choices… but I always wonder that if something has less calories, but more fat (and grams of fat is not on the labels only the calories) — would more fat be worse for you that more calories????
