Ready, set, breakfast!

What’s up Chicagoooo! I have been battling a terrible cold– stuffy nose, sore throat, headache… GROSS! I’ve been drinking tons of tea and trying to sleep in off. I feel like a lot of people are getting the annoying end of Summer cold.
I want to write about breakfast, which is my favorite meal of the day. There is nothing better than having a light dinner, going to bed, and waking up in the morning and having a great breakfast!
I know there are so many of you who HATE breakfast food… but there are so many options out there that are tasty and healthy.  The first thing I do when I get to work is EAT. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day hence the name, break-fast. If you want to maintain a healthy weight or even lose some lbs definitely eat your Wheaties. 
Here are some breakfast ideas that are convenient and tasty for anyone…

  • Oatmeal: keep a box of instant oats in your desk drawer to make whenever you want. I love keeping frozen berries in the freezer and adding them to my hot oats. 
  • Toast: whole wheat toast with 1tbsp of peanut butter, jam, honey, or spray butter. If you work in an office or school keep a loaf of bread in the freezer, that way it will last longer and you have toast whenever you want! Make sure you buy whole wheat toast with at least 4g of fiber.
  • Eggs: I love Hungry Girl’s “Egg-Mug” recipes. They are quick, easy, and you only dirty up a coffee mug. The recipe’s above are pretty fancy so when I’m in a hurry I enjoy egg beaters and laughing cow cheese in a mug… soo good!
  • Yogurt: gosh I love yogurt! My favorites are Yoplait (light), Fiber One, Weight Watchers, and Oikos Greek yogurt. Throw in a 1/4-1/2 cup of Fiber One cereal or Kashi Go Lean Crunch and you have an awesome and filling breakfast! My Mom who is the busiest woman on the planet throws a Weight Watchers yogurt in her purse when she is on the go. She eats it right when she gets to work, fyi she is super fit and tiny.
  • Cereal: beware, cereal can be very addicting. I have definitely been that girl sitting at my desk eating bowl after bowl. If you are a cereal lover, make sure you choose a cereal with plenty of fiber such as Fiber One shredded wheat. It has more fiber than frosted mini wheats and I swear, there is more frosting on the fiber one variety.
  • Breakfast bars: Here are my favorites…Kashi bars (honey almond flax & cherry dark chocolate), Fiber One (any flavor), Larabars (cherry pie & apple pie) and Kind Bars. My co-worker eats a Kind Bar every morning for breakfast… the fruit and nuts fill her up just in time for lunch.
  • Fresh fruit: My friend in NY is obsessed with stopping at her neighborhood fruit cart every morning. Other options, apples and peanut butter, melons, bananas, whatever your in the mood for! I’m a big fan of fruit smoothies, just be careful some are high in calories.

Eating breakfast everyday makes you feel less hungry, helps you avoid snacking in between meals and aids you to pick a lighter, healthier lunch over a heavy, unhealthy one. Tomorrow is a new day, start it off with a great breakfast… I know I will :-)


  1. Breakfast. I do try my hardest. I'm usually pretty good about grabbing a cereal bar. But man…I'd rather have an egg. Maybe I'll look into the options you provided. Thanks.
