I’m not much of a patriotic girl but when I think of July 4th, I think barbecue. I have two BBQ’s between tonight and tomorrow. I leave on Thursday to go to Fire Island where I will be in a bathing suit 80% of the time…FML. That pretty much means that I really should watch it if I don’t want to look like Shamu on the beach. Here are my 4th of July skinny tips that I am following this week.
Start your day with a workout: go to yoga, barre class, or take a walk on the lake with a friend. Barre Bee Fit is offering some early morning classes on the 4th. I know it sounds lame to workout on a holiday but after partying on the 3rd and again on the 4th, it’s important to do a little detoxing.
Load up on the fruit/veggie trays: this is an obvious one. You can have chips and onion dip anytime you want- there is nothing special about sour cream and seasonings anyways.
Split with a friend: something my friends and I do all the time.
Portion control: I like to try everything, especially if my friends made it- they are such great cooks. I take small portions of everything, even the dishes that aren’t healthy so I can try it all. This is a way for you to try everything without feeling guilty.
Don’t take home leftovers: why would you do that to yourself? why!? That is just a disaster waiting to happen. ONLY take leftovers if it’s for someone else- your doorman, boyfriend, co-workers, etc. If you REALLY want some good karma points give it to a homeless person- it will make their day.
Booze with caution: stay away from the sugary drinks, punches, etc. Stick with wine, light beer, or a skinny cocktail. Better yet, bring a bottle of skinny girl margarita… you will have a nice buzz going without the added cals.
Happy 4th of July!

I love my collection of navy and white stepird shirts, my most favorite being the one I got at Ann Taylor in August. I have like 14 of them (seriously) and I want to wear one every day, but I’m afraid people will think I’m wearing the same shirt 5 days in a row.
