5 Habits Healthy People Do

They Cook: Most nights. Why? Because healthy people want to know what they’re eating and what exactly they’re putting in their body. Cooking allows you to be in control of what you put in your mouth and how much of it. I can’t even begin to tell you how much additional sodium, sugar, and processed crap restaurants use in their dishes.

They Prepare: They pack healthy snacks for on the go/travel (trail mix, nuts, protein bars, skinny pop, shakeology balls, etc) and if they don’t have anything healthy on hand, they know their go-to’s.

They Check Labels: The least amount of ingredients the better. If they can’t pronounce it, they won’t eat it.

They Modify: Dressing/sauces on the side, sometimes they ask for NO sauce, lettuce wraps instead of a sandwich, and if they’re really being good they will ask for no cheese.

They Choose Wisely: Healthy people still enjoy a treat or two every now and then but they make sure to practice moderation. For example(s), they have cheat meals not cheat days. They will have french fries at lunch but not again at dinner. Simply put, they pick and choose their battles.

Celeb Street Style Inspo

Now that I work from home, I’m constantly struggling to get out of my pajamas/sweats and put on normal clothes. It’s not like I see anyone nor do I leave the house unless I’m going to the gym. With that said, I am more productive if I get dressed and put myself together. Besides, I never know when my boss will spring an impromptu lunch meeting on me!

I love Kourtney’s casual look below. It’s effortless, easy, and comfortable but she looks put together enough to go out in public. I also like the monochromatic grey outfit paired with the tan booties. So fall!

This post just made me realize I need to invest in more long and short sleeved tops for everyday. Like, the soft cotton v-neck ones!

My Favorite Organic Skincare Products

I have become obsessed with organic skincare products. Why????? Because I see results…duh.

It all started when I was in Florida last year. My skin was FREAKING out. I was breaking out like crazy and had no idea why. I ran to the spa at the hotel I was staying at in hopes they would give me something to clear up my disgusting pizza face. Long and behold, they introduced me to Eminence Organics. At that point I was open to trying anything that would clear up my face ASAP. So I bought the acne starter set and ran back to my room.

BTW, before this experience, I didn’t really care about using organic skincare. I actually never thought twice.

I used everything in the kit…face wash, serum, moisturizer and mask. It all smelled AMAZING which was an unexpected bonus. I immediately saw results…as in the next day when I woke up. I was like WTF, this organic crap worked! I kept using it even after I got home from my vacation and fell in looooove.

I started to only use organic skincare products but I began researching and trying new products and lines. My skin has never looked better and when I do have a break out, you bet I’m equipped to take care of it. Below are my favorite organic skincare products.

Eminence Organics Clear Skin Starter Set: I love everything in this set and I use each product together and separately. My favorites are the mask and the serum.

I sleep with the mask on 1-2 days a week and wake up glowing. Whenever I have a bad breakout I’ll sleep with the mask and my skin will be almost clear in the morning.

The serum really helps with bad breakouts. I use it 2-3 times a day when my skin is really bad and it helps reduce redness and clear everything up. It’s great right after you pop a zit (gross, I know), it really helps to calm things down!

What I Want Wednesday: Tall Gladiator Sandals

There’s something about this trend that I absolutely love. I’m a huge fan of tall boots and over the knee boots. I don’t know what it is but they make me feel confident. I have long legs for my height (I’m 5’3), most people think I’m taller than I am. When I wear tall boots they give the illusion that I’m not only taller but they make my legs look skinnier- swear!

When tall gladiator sandals started popping up everywhere I got super excited! I can’t wait to purchase a pair to wear with jean shorts, dresses, and skirts. I want all of the sandals below- which one’s should I buy?!

Spring Beauty Obsessions

Spring Faves 2015

Eminence Organics Clear Skin Probiotic Cleanser: This stuff makes me happy…SO HAPPY! I discovered it when I was on vacation in Naples, FL. My skin was breaking out like crazy so I went to the spa at my hotel and asked for something that would clear me up. They recommended the Clear Skin Starter Set which includes the cleanser, moisturizer, mask, and serum. I fell in love with the entire line. I use this cleanser in the morning. I love the way it makes me skin feel and it smells like mint and cucumber– the perfect cleanser to wake me up!

Nars Dual Intensity Blush (Adoration): A blush and a highlighter in one, could you ask for anything more?!? I use this everyday. The colors are gorgeous on every skin tone and a little goes a long way. I also like to mix the highlighter with my lip gloss. I take my finger and dab a little in the center of my lips to make them pop. I even use this on my eyes and put the darker shade in the crease and the highlighter on the lid. So many uses!

Smashbox Pore Minimizing Primer (oil free): Every time I used a product that reduced the size of my pores or minimized my pores I would break out…this primer does not do that! I was so happy to find something that really works without making my skin freak out. The texture is like clay so it’s a little weird at first but once you apply it your skin it becomes soooo smooth. Every time I use this primer people come up to me and tell me how amazing my skin looks…if they only knew THIS primer was the real reason. Secret’s out folks!

Make Up Forever HD Powder: Obsessed. Can’t go a day without it. This makes your skin look flawless. It gets rid of any shine and also sets my makeup beautifully! It doesn’t have a powdery or cakey finish either.

Kat Von D Shade & Light Eye Contour Palette: The colors in this palette are absolutely stunning and can be used for everyday or for a dramatic evening look. The colors are very pigmented and I’m finding NO fallout when applied. I just love this palette– everything about it!

Nivea In Shower Body Lotion: I’m almost out of it and that makes me really sad. I use this to shave my legs and use it right before I get out of the shower. It smells great and makes my skin really soft. I will definitely be purchasing more.

How to get to work on time

wake up

Go to bed earlier: Your brain needs at least 7-9 hours to recharge and rest up for the next day. The longer, the better. I try my best to get in bed by 10pm. If I fall asleep by 10:30 that gives me a full 8 hours of sleep. It’s not easy but it really does help.

Do everything the night before: Pick out your clothes, pack your lunch, pack your gym bag, curl your hair, etc. If you do everything the night before, it’s less you have to do in the morning and more time you have to sleep/putz.

Set your alarm earlier than normal: I set my alarm an hour and a half before I have to get in the office. This is great if you like to snooze. I only let myself snooze one time (which is new for me).

Hit the lights: As soon as I wake up in the morning I turn on all the lights. It sucks but it helps me wake up especially when it’s still dark outside. Before J and I moved in together I would also blast the news.

Turn on the coffee maker: The smell of coffee instantly wakes me up. After I turn on the lights, coffee is the second thing I do.

Give yourself enough time: Make sure you give yourself enough time for your commute. This goes back to what time you wake up. If I know it takes me 15 minutes to get to work, I make sure I’m out the door 20 minutes before I have to get there. I give myself an extra 5 minutes to be on the safe side.

DIY’s Around the House to Make Your Life Easier!

Instead of calling the maintenance man or dealing with the problem until it gets REALLY bad, DIY! The below DIY jobs can be completed in less than an hour and won’t leave you broke. I hope they help you as much as they help me!

How to fix a broken fuse

First, locate the fuse box. Mine is in my closet. You should see a bunch of switches in there (they are called breakers). They all point the same direction. One or two should be flipped in the opposite direction. Flip that one back to the same side as all the others and everything will turn back on!

How to get water spots off dishes

Glass cleaner, it’s like magic! If you have a really bad stain let it soak for a few minutes and wipe clean. Make sure you rinse with soap and water to remove any chemicals from the glass cleaner.

How to fix a clogged drain

There is nothing worse than a clogged drain, especially in the shower. Gross! I pour an entire bottle of drano into the drain and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Then, I use a plunger and plunge the drain. It works the same way as if you plunge a toilet. The drano loosens up the hair and dirt in the drain and the air pressure from the plunger forces the drain to clear.

What to do with wet/dirty dish gloves

If you are an avid user of dish gloves, you will know after using them they are soaking wet and kind of nasty. Instead of throwing them under the sink (what I used to do), I put them in my dishwasher. That way, they have a place to dry and it’s easy access when I need to do the dishes.

How to keep flowers from wilting

Stick a penny in the vase after you put your flowers in water. I guess there is something about copper that prevents flowers from wilting. It really does work!

Grilled Brussels Sprouts

I have yet to blog in August, WTF. I’ve been such a busy lady and it’s not okay that I’ve neglected my readers. It’s been a struggle for me to balance my full time job, my blog, personal life, social life, and everything in between. The weather has FINALLY been gorgeous so I’ve been spending most of my time getting my tan on, either at the pool or on a friends boat. I know…rough life. I really hope it stays this way through September, fingers crossed!

On another note, I’m moving on Friday! I’m not moving far, just 4 blocks from where I live now. I’m so excited for my new place and to build a new home. Packing is my worst nightmare. I seriously don’t know what to do about it. I’ve spent more time pacing around my place then I have actually packing. I have more stuff than I can deal with. Of course I’ve done a great job procrastinating, I move in 3 days. Does anyone have any packing tips? I could really use some!

DSCN2924 I made these a couple of weeks ago and they turned out awesome. When I grill vegetables I keep it simple- olive oil, salt & pepper. When I grill small vegetables, I use a grill basket. It makes the process so much easier and I don’t have to worry about anything falling in the grill. I got mine from Target but you can get them anywhere and they are pretty inexpensive.

Grilled Brussels Sprouts

  • 1 lb brussel sprouts
  • 1-2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2-1teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2-1teaspoon cracked black pepper

  1. Clean the sprouts. Trim the cut ends back without interferring with the leaves, and peel any nasty looking leaves off the bulb.
  2. Place the sprouts in boiling, salted water for no more than five minutes. NO MORE!
  3. Drain, drizzle with oil and toss in a bowl with the salt and pepper.
  4. When the sprouts are nice and coated, place on a hot grill, turning every few minutes. I like mine extra crispy.
  5. Remove from the grill and serve hot.

IMG_7920 Skirt: Splendid, Tank: Theory, Blazer: Zara, Sandals: Mossimo, Necklace: Gorjana

I got so many compliments on my outfit yesterday and I didn’t even think it was anything special. Whenever I try to put a great outfit together I find myself trying too hard and the outfit never turns out the way I want it to. When I throw on an outfit when I’m running late it ends up working out like yesterday. I found my skirt in the back of my closet and totally forgot I owned it. I love when that happens! I tucked in a tank, threw on a blazer and ran out the door. BTW, I wore my white blazer to work twice this week.

I mostly got compliments on my sandals which are from Target! They were such a great find and look like the dolce vita sandals for a quarter of the price. I bought mine last year but they still make them. I actually think they are better this year.
